The Crest of Divine Mercy Academy

The crest of Divine Mercy Academy is initially inspired by the crest of school patron John Paul II.Incorporating the Holy Cross and Marian “M” the DMA crest includes the following elements as well, speaking to its patronage and culture.

  1. The crest features a bold white cross, slightly offset. The Holy Cross reminds us of the centrality of Christ’s redeeming death, both in our lives as Catholics but also in the mission of the school.

  2. Drawing from John Paul II, the capital “M” represents the importance of “Honoring Mary as our mother and helper.” The M itself shares the same color of the Cross and is set slightly off relative to the Cross. This represents Mary’s presence at the Crucifixion and her continual role as intercessor for us today.

  3. In the center of the Cross is the Sacred Heart of Jesus. The heart is Crimson in color and trimmed in Gold. We are reminded that Christ is the King of the universe and desires to draw all of creation into His most Sacred Heart.

  4. The White and Crimson rays that emanate from the Sacred Heart remind us of our heritage as Divine Mercy Academy and speak to the original Divine Mercy image. Further, as the Catechism states, “The Church is born primarily of Christ's total self-giving for our salvation, anticipated in the institution of the Eucharist and fulfilled on the cross. "The origin and growth of the Church are symbolized by the blood and water which flowed from the open side of the crucified Jesus." "For it was from the side of Christ as he slept the sleep of death upon the cross that there came forth the 'wondrous sacrament of the whole Church.” (766)

  5. In front of the crest is a ribbon with “Truth”, “Beauty” , and “Goodness” written on each fold. These represent the transcendentals that we seek to attune the hearts and minds of our students to. We believe that Truth, Beauty, and Goodness are not relative but the handiwork of the Creator himself. Part of our mission is to teach students to love what is lovely.

  6. Divine Mercy Academy is written in an arc across the top of the crest, just below the outer Gold trim.

  7. “MMXIX” or 2019 is written in Roman numerals at the bottom representing the year of the school’s founding.
